Things We Have Done ....

It's a new school year!

After homeschooling, two boys in one family (2nd and 3rd), and two girls in another (1st and 4th) all last year, I am starting with Algebra 2 for a young man I have been helping in math since 5th grade.  He never got his multiplication facts down, and he has been paying for it ever since. Multiplication math facts are SO important!  I can't stress this enough. If they play computer games, then let them play math fact computer games. If you have a deck of cards at home, sit down with your child, at least starting in 3rd grade, and play a math fact game. Just put down 1 card from each player (a 2 player game) and add or subtract.  If it is a parent and child, the parent confirms the fact is correct, if it is two children playing, the parent is the referee and whoever gets the fact correct, get the cards. When all cards have been played, the players count the cards and whoever has more cards wins. Parents have a key advantage. Children just love playing with their parents. This excited feeling is advantageous and actually helps them learn. They don't feel stressed about learning math. Studies have shown that when parents are involved with their child's learning, they are better students.  Parents! Show you are involved!

Another repeat customer! I never expected this! Zeshan, a younger brother of Hara and Ahmed, who I tutored several years ago is now a new student of mine. Welcome Zeshan!
